SonED for Dos V.16B |
RETURN TO
TOP |
|
Now obsolete but still up for download,
this is where sonED started. For those who still much prefer a DOS
environment, this version can do many of the tasks the windows version
can, but lacks several newer features and is much harder to use lacking the windows interface.

SonED Definition Updates v.40 |
RETURN TO
TOP |
|
Ultima's very own expanded
object definition pack for SonED adds to the library of object names
in Sonic 1, 2 and 3k. This allows for easier understanding of objects
within a level and displays them with their correct name - highly
recommended.

Esrael Sonic Editor (ESE) v2.40 |
RETURN TO
TOP |
|
For those starting from
scratch, ESE is a great tool. Its compatability with already edited
roms is questionable, but for level editing on a new rom, or minor
adjustments on a rom well in progress, this tool is very addequatel. Generally only use this tool should ESE II not work for you.

Latest update includes importing levels from Sonic1/J , Sonic2B, Sonic3K in to the Sonic 2 Rom, as well as bugfixes.

Sonic Hacking Wizard Pro |
|
The first in a decidely long series of general hacking utilities from Gerbilsoft, SHWP once stood at the top dealing with many things only applicable in hex. Now it's pretty much limited to many of the things ESE can achieve anyway. SHWP does, however, boast an easily navigated interface and helpful utilities.

Sonic Hacking Wizard Pro II |
|
The second development of SHWP uses a template system alllowing compatability with any game should there be a template for it. Too bad this system wasn't used to any particular advantage. SHWPII Never got much further than a basic template system and palette editor which is a real shame.

Gerbils Sonic Rom Hacking Studio |
|
This originally highly anticipated utility has shown a distinct pattern with each release of Gerbils software - each new version tends to get worse in the sense it drastically lacks features. With a name as it has, one would expect GSRHS to do many, many things but instead it remains a fairly average palette editor, of which there are already plenty. Being that GSRHS is pretty much discontinued (over a year without even a sniff of an update) it's only major plus points are palette editing for Chaotix, SonicCD and Sonic Advance but otherwise Gerbils commitment to his software seems to have decreased as time goes on and this program remains somewhat more of testament to what could have been. Shame.

Sonic Tweaker v0.04 |
|
Whilst being the vast early stages of development, the Sonic Tweaker is unique in the sense that it boasts small modifications that nothing bar a hex editor can match - the Sonic Tweaker lays out a multitude of easily editable values that directly influence the flow and structure of the game. With support for Sonic 1, 2, 3k and Chaotix, the Sonic Tweaker
is easily one of the most user friendly and helpful little applications in this catagory.
