Tile Layer Pro SSRG MAIN PAGE

Loved because of it's simplicity (which, once you understand the very basics, is very true), TLP is an effective sprite editing tool, allowing the easy modification of ANY uncompressed art within the ROM. Works hand-in-hand with decompressing utilities to edit art to be inserted back into the rom. TLP has it's up's and down's in terms of stability but overall it gets the job done and what more is needed?

PCXPal SSRG MAIN PAGE

A helpful assistant to Tile Layer Pro, PCXPal can extract palettes from any PCX image dump from programs like SonED or Genecyst DOS emulator and output Tile Layer Pro palette files. This is a command line based small application which is VERY easy to use - highly recommended.

TileEd SSRG MAIN PAGE

An interesting alternative to Tile Layer Pro, TileED is harder to get to grips with but many still prefer it. I personally don't like it but haven't had much time to try it properly, so I'll leave it to you to decide.

Sonik Sprite 1.5 Beta RETURN TO TOP

Sonik Sprite is a sprite editing utility with support for almost all the genesis games. Some tiles have not been fully added yet, but this is probably the last version of the original Sonik sprite, and will remain here until it is fully surpassed by its newer 'Sonik Remix' (See Below). This current version has a few bugs that were never fixed, such as requiring 24/32bit colour settings to run properly and saving certain sprites incorrectly if you have 2 or more of the same colour within the main palette (it writes the sprite to the rom with the first of it's colour in the list).

Sonik Sprite Remix BETA RETURN TO TOP

The sequel to sonik sprite, this version is sure to recieve a LOT of use, when finished. This version is mainly for test purposes, and is not intended for use in your projects just yet. This is mainly a test for editing COMPRESSED art, such as Enemies, Item boxes and in the future, even things like bosses - only time will tell. A fantastic start, this could well be the best graphical editor to ever surface for the hacking scene.

This version has compatability for Sonic 1 ONLY.

ChaoSaX-Pal SSRG MAIN PAGE

Arguably the best utility to come from the joint efforts of Chaos and Saxman (hence the name), ChaoSaX-Pal is the single best palette editor to date due to it's functionality it has over many others. Some people can't understand why I rate this utility so highly, but it really is exceptional in the way it works. You dont have to edit each palette entry individually, you can right click and paste entries elsewhere, allowing you to capture the colour of an entry, edit it and insert it elsewhere. This program also supports copying entire palettes to the clipboard to paste into other locations - for example, if you wanted to have a slightly darker underwater palette, you could simply copy the main palette accross and edit each entry by 1 value to make it slightly darker instead of manually changing each entry. This is a very efficient system and works VERY well.

Sonic Display Editor SSRG MAIN PAGE

Sonic Display Editor modifies the placement of on-screen objects which includes the score, time, rings and lives objects. Sonic display Editor works with Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 Final. this is a DOS program but should, in most cases, work under Windows 2000/XP

Important: This program only supports the 8.3 filename format. If you don't know what this means, just name your hack 1.bin or something before editing.

The included source code is written in x86 assembly and will compile, without modification, using A86.
