Sonic QX SSRG MAIN PAGE

Breaking down the barriers for one last time, Saxman released Sonic QX to combine his love for music and his former love for the hacking scene. Sonic QX, as you've probably guessed, is a music editor for Sonic2 beta with incredible (and somewhat unused) power to completely change the music in-game. SQX even boasts limited MIDI importing ability. Definately worth the time but be sure to read the instructions carefully. Understand that SQX's current release (Build 15) is still quite early and Saxman has promised a re-written and more easily accessable version:

Saxman: Music has been one aspect of Sonic games that has remained virtually untouched. Sonic QX opens the doors that were once long closed. It supports the beta version of Sonic 2. This powerful 32-bit Windows program allows you to import General MIDI information into the game so that you can listen to the type of music that you want in the game. In addition, you can dump the drum samples from the game into WAV files, modify the voices (also called "patches" or "instruments") to make them whatever you want them to be, and you can modify basics like tempo and pitch. It comes with a very detailed and easy to understand manual that will be with you whenever you get stuck. And if you think it can't be better, then just wait for the C/C++ and ASM reconstructed version to come out.

Sonic 2 Beta Music Porter SSRG MAIN PAGE

A fairly simple application that transfers music data from Sonic2 Beta to Sonic 2 Final, for immediate use with Sonic QX. Apparently, it works very well - for more precise information on what the program does specifically, go here.

Sonic Sound Editor SSRG MAIN PAGE

The incredibly old predecessor to Sonic QX, the Sonic Sound Editor can perform basic functions like editing the tempo and replacing the Sega PCM sound with support for both Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 Final. It should be noted, however, that people with Windows NT based PC's are unable to run it due to the purely dos interface.

Sonic One Music Editor SSRG MAIN PAGE

SOME is a fairly new and ongoing addition to the Music hacking scene, boasting advanced voice editing for Sonic 1. This utility allows saving directly to the rom, simple and straightforward. A very good program indeed, should you take the time to familiarise yourself with everything. Unfortunatly lacks some of the more advanced features of music editing - hopefully an update can rectify this.
